High time for high flyers
When the countdown starts or the pilot in the wide-body jet adjusts the angle of attack for takeoff, all the systems and components have to do is function as planned by the development engineers and project managers right from the start. Every time – under any conditions – without even the slightest deviation. And there is a lot more to come…
As compact as possible, every gram counts, and able to withstand all loads with maximum precision under the most extreme conditions. These are the requirements of the aerospace industry when it comes to safety couplings. Absolute reliability, economy of space, lowest possible consumption (no matter how low the weight: it wants to be moved) of fuel, accuracy, stability and durability – and a lot more individual items are in the specifications.
For example, a manufacturer of aircraft and aviation equipment was looking for a safety coupling for an intelligent lifting device of mobile cabins for transport and service work. The specifications: Depending on the aircraft type, the disengagement torque should be between 40 and 135 Nm with a total length of 30 mm and a total weight of just 200 g – after all, it was to be integrated into a scissor lift table in a very confined space.
R + W was of course able to help – a safety coupling from the SLP Series 30 was adapted to further customer requirements. With an overload protection in sealed design and thus protected against liquid media and dirt, in addition applicable in any weather, it defies all adverse circumstances and influences from the outside. But how did we achieve this? The SL model series, developed in cooperation with universities, consists of materials with a special coating that achieves a weight reduction of up to 60% compared to the standard. And that with the SLP Series 30 with a torque limit of up to 135 Nm and a mass moment of inertia of 0.1 x 10-3 kgm²! The fact that it also reacts in the millisecond range thanks to its special interlocking of base body and mounting flange is (almost) only mentioned in passing!
And it is this lasting precision performance that distinguishes all five models currently offered in the Torqlight lightweight series. For indirect and direct drive – once with clamping ring or key connection, on the other hand with clamping hub and shaft misalignment compensation. The fact that you can determine the re-engagement angles from 360° or also over 30°, 45° and 90°, depending on the series (30, 60, 150 and 300), select torques from 10 Nm to 700 Nm, should really meet every conceivable requirement.
