FAQ - Torque Limiters, flexible Shaft Couplings and Line Shafts
Purpose of a Torque Limiter
Q) What
is the purpose of a torque limiter?
A) Mechanical torque limiters
are used to rapidly disconnect the drive and driven elements
of a mechanical system when a torque overload occurs.
They are available for belt and chain drive applications,
and there are inline clutch coupling (also called safety
coupling) versions as well. When a machine crash or jam
takes place, torque limiters will cause the mechanics
to break free, virtually instantaneously, and minimize
damage as the result of the impact.
